All of the concrete formwork for the uppermost concrete beams was stripped. The house now has a remarkable presence on the street. One can clearly appreciate the double cantilever of the roof over the entry stair. The deep concrete shadowbox on the side elevation adds interest to the volume of the house from both the street and the water.
Three weeks later, the uppermost tie beams delineate the outline of the house. It is now possible to better differentiate the spaces that will serve as terraces from the conditioned enclosure.
In today's aerial, one can clearly see the two story space cutting through the center of the house. All spaces are organized around the double height living / dining space.
The double height living room is taking shape. The steel structure of the mezzanine floor is in place. One can also appreciate the view from the lower roof terrace. The steel deck is in place on the top floor. Today’s inspection cleared the way for us to pour the elevated slab and beams.
Forteen USF Architecture students led by Michael Halflants and Mark Weston have been diligently building the interior foyer for the Art Center in Sarasota. The construction is based on a schematic design generated by Halflants + Pichette Architects. The steel for the reception desk was cut with a water jet and powder coated clear. The ends of the donor wall have both been cut on the university's CNC router.
